My boy E Livers chops it up with me about the weight of trying to give our kids a great life in this economy

My first remote guest is Emory Livers, a friend going back to Tennessee State University, the HBCU in Nashville where we met. Two dads on two screens, talking about what it actually costs to give our kids a great life right now, the pressure of being the one who has to make the numbers work, and what that weight looks like for Black fathers in particular.

Episode 02 John Bailey

I Regret Spanking: What I Learned

With John Bailey. Two dads on the discipline we grew up with, the line between correcting a kid and hurting one, and the regret that doesn't show up until years later. The conversation most dads won't have out loud.

An hour in, the tape rolling

A late-episode moment: the honest, tired, mid-thought conversations that only happen when the mics have been hot for a while.

Your host

Just me and whoever's brave enough to sit across the mic.

Hey, I'm Russ. Girl-dad twice over, boy-dad once, and living proof that being a father is the most incredible asset a man can have.

Three kids. Fifteen, ten, and four. A teenage son who’s an athlete and already runs his own business, who lost his mom too young. Two daughters who taught me patience the hard way, one of them at the end of a custody fight that took thousands of dollars and every ounce of resolve I had. If you’ve ever wondered whether all the money and heartbreak was worth it just to be present in your kid’s life, the answer is yes. It's always yes.

Dadcast Live is where I stop performing fatherhood and start talking about it. Grief, custody courts, raising a teenage entrepreneur, keeping a four-year-old alive, and every dumb-and-brilliant moment in between. No expert credentials. No perfect answers. Just a dad who's figured out that showing up, fully and unedited, is the longest, hardest, best work I'll ever do.

Modern parenting

Screens, schedules, tantrums, teens. What's actually working right now.

Marriage & partnership

Staying connected when the kids, job, and calendar are winning.

Mental health

Anxiety, burnout, therapy, meds: the things men don't talk about.

Work & money

Time & priorities

The daily calculus of family, work, health, and any life of your own.

The dumb stuff too

Gear, grills, dad jokes, playlists, and the small joys of a life well-fathered.
